Last night was Craft Night for a bunch of girls from church. I’m so excited that someone, other than me, finally coordinated one.
I didn’t want to haul the sewing machine, and I still can’t use my hand enough to crochet, so I decided that jewelry making would be a good portable craft.
Have you seen the awesome bracelet tutorials featured over on Honestly WTF? I really liked three of their designs. I managed to make two of them during craft night. It’s funny how long a simple craft like a bracelet can take – I’d imagined myself coming home with loads of bracelets instead of just two.
The first bracelet on the left is a leather wrap that Matthew made for me.
The middle bracelet is made from hex nuts! They’re added to a basic braid. It’s time consuming, but easy. Click here for the tutorial on Honestly WTF. The men at Lowes were surprisingly helpful finding hex nuts for me. I figured that they would think I was silly when I said they were for jewelry. But they were actually wanting to come up with their own ideas for hardware based jewelry. It was cute.
The bracelet on the right is made from leather cord, hemp string, and a ball chain. Here’s the link to that tutorial. I found it challenging to keep the bracelet from twisting as I wrapped it. I’m sure that if I make it a second time, it’ll be a lot easier.
I’m loving the stacked bracelets on my wrist. Rings and bracelets of kind of the best type of jewelry because you can admire them on yourself all day without a mirror. I’ve enjoyed seeing these today!
The kids are in the other room playing craft night. I love when they imitate me – it’s very entertaining to listen to. And in the front hallway, turquoise paint is drying on a dresser we use in there. It’s so pretty!
