I’ve been too busy to blog, and the beginnings of a recap

This past month or so has been crazy. First, I went to the doctor for my yearly checkup, which I had been putting off for months since my cholesterol was high last year. Seriously, I had decided that I needed to lose weight and get fit before I could possibly go see the doctor again. I don’t like to be fussed at. And I definitely don’t like doctors to get to tell me I’m fat in the name of healthcare. So I watched every episode of Drop Dead Diva and decided that society was putting undo pressure on me to be thin, and that I would never again go to the doctor. But then I had to go. And, as predicted, he told me that I needed to get my cholesterol down, which means weight loss. Though we don’t actually know what that number is, because I bought myself some time until November to actually get it checked.

Why is all of this relevant to the blog? Because, I went home and started a crazy diet and exercise program that took up all of my time. I actually started visiting the exercise section of Pinterest and pinning all of those motivational pins about being thin that usually just piss me off. And I got a little obsessed, in a good way, with doing everything possible to get a good cholesterol reading in a few months. I lost 10 lbs. as of about 2 weeks ago. The Wii Fit can stop telling me that I’ve overweight when I step on it, because I officially have a “normal” BMI. Not low enough, but normal nonetheless. And I’m rocking size 8 jeans again. Yay, me.

Then, we got the crazy idea to try again at selling our house. So I put exercise on hold for bit while I got the house ready to sell. I spent a week putting every ounce of my energy into that whole project. I listed tons of extra furniture, and things I just didn’t love, on Craigslist. And I felt like my home was a store for about 2 days while people came and handed me wads of cash in exchange for my stuff. But then we realized that our house hasn’t really appreciated at all in the past 8 years thanks to a crappy economy, and that selling right now wouldn’t be wise.

So then, the madness continued. Knowing that we were staying at this house for what now seems like the rest of our lives, I took that bundle of cash I earned on Craigslist and went shopping at thrift stores all over town. I bought a bunch of new stuff, and got busy with the spray paint on some of it. And I fell in love with my house all over again.

Lastly, we went out of town, and I ate a whole bunch of fast food. So now I have to re-lose 1.5 lbs. Ha!

I also discovered Instagram fairly recently, which is a very lazy and easy way of blogging projects without really blogging. I promise to try and be better about actually blogging, because there have actually been quite a few of you subscribing lately and I’d like you to stick around. I also promise that this will be the only post for quite some time where I blog about non crafty things like my weight and loathing of doctors visits!

So here’s a project recap.

One of my thrift purchases was a desk for Taylor’s room. I searched for two days until I finally found a desk that was the right size, and cheap enough to paint. It took a lot of sanding, followed by primer and spray paint. The new hardware really finished it off nicely.

Here’s the before, during, and after shots.

I also found a really great little kitchen cart for $13.50 at the Habitat ReStore. With a little spray paint, it too is looking much cuter.

I got inspired to make my own knockoff of the popular J. Crew bubble necklace. It’s very modified, and I know that really accurate knockoffs are very cheap, but it was fun to make.

Matthew brought home a giant chalkboard, which finally gave me something big for the space over the sofa. Of course, he did some pretty hand lettering on it for me.

And so you don’t have to scroll back up to the top, here’s the finished board:

Also, notice the giant coffee table and side table. I found those while thrift store shopping, and I’m really thrilled with them. No DIY efforts required – the wood looks awesome as is. I really wanted something natural and big for a coffee table, and I was so excited to walk into a store and see these.

Sorry for the big brain dump! I’ve been procrastinating about catching this blog up and properly photographing things, but I think that these Instagram shots will do. Be back soon!
