I’m still working on decorating the bedroom. After blogging this morning about Matthew Perry’s headboard on his new TV show, I decided on what I wanted to do with my headboard. Though it is done and hanging on the wall, the wall is not painted the correct color, so I’ll surprise you with that later.
One big change that needed to be made in the bedroom was to the nightstands. We haven’t ever had proper ones, or even matching ones. We had one tall and skinny table with a drawer on my side, and then a shorter and wider wooden filing cabinet on the other. Every night, I knocked either my chapstick or my glasses off of my skinny nightstand, which were perched on the edge in the space left by the lamp.
My dream nightstand is the GiGi by Urban Outfitters. I just tried to link to it, and discovered that it’s no longer for sale. What a pity! I may not be able to afford $149 per table, but they sure were pretty. Here’s a photo, since I can’t link you over there.
It’s so cute. The color is great for my bedroom. It has storage. And, to top it all off, it has a lip around 3 sides to keep my chapstick from falling under the bed. But, it was too expensive. And, like I just discovered, no longer for sale apparently.
As you can guess from the title of this post, I ended up pulling some pine tv tray tables outside for some nice glossy aqua spray paint. They may not meet all the criteria of the GiGi – storage and the lip are missing. But they definitely meet my thrifty requirement, since they were out in the garage. All I had to buy was a can of primer and two cans of spray paint.
I already have another TV tray redone in yellow in the living room, and I was amazed how a solid coat of paint over all of the exposed hardware really cleaned things up. Here’s a photo of the living room, with that yellow table on the right side:
Here they are before. Perfectly fine and functional, but not pretty at all.
I’m realizing I should have taken a nice “after” photo of the tables outside that didn’t have newspaper under them. But it’s dark out now, and I’ve written this post. So here’s a very poor looking shot. Sorry!

Once again, as with the metal letters, I don’t want to show anything to you guys in the room until the room is done. It isn’t, but the tables are in.
Since there aren’t any drawers to dictate which way they’re turned, I’m able to position these longways with the shortest side forward. This way, they fit in my narrow space beside the bed, but we get a bit more space. There’s even room for a couple of bamboo trays I picked up on clearance last week at Target, so my chapstick has something to keep it from falling off.
Tomorrow, I plan to tackle pillow and chair cushion making. Thanks for stopping by!
