My husband Matthew and I have been married for almost ten years. We have two kids – ages 6 and 4. And we rarely ever get to go on dates.
So last weekend, when we snuck away from the kids for a few hours to paint pottery and eat Japanese food at the park, it was a really big treat. I wish that’s what we were doing today. At the moment, Jacob is actually screaming. And, yes, I’m blogging. But what else is there to do while you’re riding out a fit? Ha. Matthew and Taylor have gone to get s’mores ingredients, so maybe there’s hope for today.
Back to last Saturday, for now. It was perfect. We dropped the kids off at my parents’ house, but we took our puppy with us. He has major separation anxiety issues, and he started shaking when he realized we were leaving. I called ahead to the paint your own pottery shop, to confirm that there were tables outside where we could paint with a puppy. It turned out perfectly. The shop owner assumed that two people crazy enough to take their anxious puppy on a date must not have kids already. And for a brief little time, it really did feel to me like we were a new-ish couple out on a date, instead of two tired parents.
Oh, and there was Starbucks too. I had an iced Pumpkin Spice Latte. The weather was in the 70s. It was fall-ish, and a great day to be outside.
My first job was at a now closed pottery shop in town. This was my first time to paint pottery since then. I still loved doing it!
I painted the mug on the left for Matthew, and he painted the to-go mug for me.
Afterwards, we ate bowls of Japanese food at the park and hung out with Oliver (our puppy).
Today we finally got to pick up the finished mugs. I’ve already enjoyed a homemade pumpkin spice latte in mine.
But back to real life. The fit throwing is over, but there is a Diet Dr. Pepper spilled on the floor that I need to go wipe up.
