Quilts for Kids

A sample pinwheel quilt from their site, with a downloadable pattern.

Have you all heard of Quilts for Kids? I had, but forgot all about it. Thank to a reminder from Make It and Love It, I just filled out a request for quilting supplies.

Quilts for Kids is a great organization that provides colorful quilts to hospitalized children. From babies to older children, having a soft and colorful quilt to cuddle makes their stay in a hospital bed just a tiny bit more comfortable. I personally spent 2 or 3 nights in the hospital with Jacob when he was two, and I know what a difficult experience that is for both parent and child.

All you have to do to get started is fill out a quick form here, and Quilts for Kids will mail you all the pre-cut fabric that you need. Their site also has a list of patterns and instructions for quilts that you can make using the fabric that they send.

It takes 1-2 weeks to receive the kit. Then I’ll have 4-6 weeks to piece and sew it, and ship it back to the organization. I’ll update the blog with what the kit looks like, and my finished product.

Is anyone else out there reading this who’s worked with this program before? Or are you thinking about doing it? I’d love to see what you’ve made or are working on for them in the comments!

  1. I have not worked with this program but I am completely inspired. Thanks for sharing!

    • It’s such a nice idea. I hope lots of people participate! Mine is quilted and washed. Now I just need to brave the heat and drive to the post office to ship it.
