Buyer's Guide

3D Acrylic Paint

This article is designed to help you know how to apply a 3D Acrylic Paint to your project. The steps are simple and the theory behind them are simple, but the best way to learn what you need to know before you start is to watch a video showing you exactly how it's done. If you're just starting out with 3D art, there is no doubt that you're going to want to start out with a mask so you can see what you're doing. It will also help you learn more about what kind of materials you will need.

Firstly, it is important to remember that a 3D Acrylic Paint application needs to be done on a suitable surface such as an acrylic board or acrylic plastic mask. You don't want to paint on a rough surface which may scratch or chip soon after. A mask looks like a clear mask but with a reflective back side so that you can see exactly what is below. To make a mask look transparent and feature-rich, use a very glossy paint and apply with a hot glue gun.

Always read the instructions included with your 3D Acrylic Paint, this will tell you how to use the hot glue gun correctly. Use the tip of the gun at least a half-way into the mask. Give it a couple of goes and if you hear a crack or click, stop spraying immediately and put on a fresh sheet of masking tape. Check that your mask is as flat as possible and move it around. If there is any excess glue, carefully remove it by pushing it down with a paperclip or by using a needle.

Once you're happy that your mask looks within the limits of your photo, you can start to paint! Start painting in the same way as you did with your first attempt, using the cross sections of your mask as guides. Make sure that you're working inside the confines of your mask, and spray paint in the exact colour of your chosen fabric. The mask looks like it's covering your entire face, so it's easy to see where you've gone wrong. If you've accidentally smudged some paint onto your face when you were mixing the acrylic paint dried with hot glue, wipe it clean with a clean cloth, then dry with another piece of masking tape.

If you make any mistakes while painting, don't be afraid to experiment with different techniques or colours. You can always come back to the drawing table and start again. A lot of beginners find that they start to lose patience when they're not happy with the results of their work. Some people choose to give up painting altogether, but this is never a good idea. If you're not happy with your mask, ask yourself whether or not you're willing to try doing something else to get the mask just right.

Don't be afraid to mix and match colours. Acrylic paint comes in a variety of different colours, so you can mix and match colours to create your own unique colour scheme. If you have an acrylic mask on that matches a certain colour already used on your paint job, you can use the colour to create highlights within your mask. This will emphasise the design elements of your paint job, making it look as if you've spent hours creating a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.

If you're trying a new coloured paint, make sure that you give it a few days to dry before you put it on your face. If your mask looks like it's drying too quickly, or if you feel that it's affecting how you can breathe, put it back on and wait for it to dry a bit more. If you want to add more depth to your mask, you can add a second layer of paint or acrylic tape to your mask. This will create a three dimensional effect and make your mask look even more professional.

Acrylic masks are great for many applications. They're incredibly easy to use, and can give you amazing results with just a little practice. However, you should keep in mind that you shouldn't use your mask as an excuse to get creative. Make sure that you use your imagination when applying your paint, and give yourself plenty of time to ensure that your mask looks fantastic. If you are happy with the results, you can apply more coats of paint to create an even richer, more detailed look!
