Buyer's Guide

Buyers Guide: Cricut Machines

The Cricut machine is at its core a computer-controlled cutting machine. But that's only the beginning! These machines look just like desktop printers but are far more colorful and interesting than your typical home printer.

What are the possibilities with a Cricut?

You can use all three Cricut machines for personalized cards, mugs, and window decals. Iron-on designs can also be created to decorate t-shirts, other clothing, and stretchy items. Different machines can also be used with tools for scoring, marking, engraving, fabric cut, and perforations. Each Cricut machine's cutting power determines the materials it can cut. The Maker has more tools than any other Cricut machine and can cut more materials, including delicate papers and unbonded fabrics. It can also handle heavier-duty materials like leather, matt board, and wood sheets. For example, it can be used to create leather panels with intricate cutouts, engrave detail onto metal sheets, and cut wooden shapes to make 3D structures such as dinosaurs or storage containers.

What are the differences between the Cricut machines?

Four Cricut machines are currently available. The Cricut One, Cricut Air, and Cricut Air were the first to be released.

Cricut Air 2 & Cricut Maker are now the main machines.

Let's take a look at how Cricut machines differ from each other.

2ND TOOL HOLDER

The Cricut One comes with a single holder that can hold the blade and any accessories. You will need to remove one holder and insert the other to use the blade or an additional tool, such as a pen.

Two holders are standard on all other machines. Thus, you can keep the blade in place at all times, and you can use the second holder to store an accessory.

BLUETOOTH CONNECTIVITY

The Cricut One cannot connect to Bluetooth. It must be connected physically to a computer or a laptop.

Although the Cricut Air can connect to Bluetooth, it will need an adapter.

The Cricut Air 2, as well as the Cricut Maker, can be connected to Bluetooth. This allows you to use your computer, an iPhone, iPad, or Android, as well as an android.

SPEED AND MATERIALS CUTS

Cricut Air 2 or Cricut Maker can cut and write 2xs faster than the Cricut Air 2.

Explore One, Explore Air, and Explore Air 2 are capable of cutting, writing, and scoring over 100 materials.

The most versatile is the Cricut Maker. The Cricut Maker can cut, score, and write on over 300 materials, including aluminum, balsa wood, and unbonded fabric.

You can also expand the tools available to your Cricut Maker. You will find a rotary, knife, scoring, perforation, perforation, perforation, and engraving blades.

The best machines for various purposes

Best for Beginners

The Cricut Air 2 and Cricut Maker both use the same Design Space software.

Cricut Air 2 does not have as many advanced cutting capabilities as the Cricut Maker. Although it is limited in the materials it can cut, it is still an excellent machine.

The Cricut Air 2 will suffice if you are just starting out and only want to cut vinyl or paper. The Cricut Maker is for you if you are interested in trying out different materials such as felt, balsa wood, fabric, or leather.

 Best for papercrafters

The Cricut Air 2 is sufficient if you are primarily a paper crafter. The Cricut Air 2 can cut paper and vinyl quickly, but it is not capable of cutting other materials like balsa wood or leather.

Best for Vinyl

The Cricut Air 2 is an excellent choice if you want to use your Cricut machine for cutting adhesive vinyl or heat transfer vinyl. It cannot cut other materials like leather, balsa wood, or fabric. Like the Cricut Maker.

Best for fabric & sewers

Cricut Maker has been a dream machine for both fabric artists and sewers. The rotary blade cuts fabric like butter and feels soft. The Cricut Maker is the Cricut machine for you if you are a fabric worker.

Using Explore, you can cut fabrics too. However, the fabric must first be bonded.

Best for teachers

Which Cricut machine is best for teachers? It could be either.

Cricut Air 2 may be preferred by some users who prefer simpler features. The Cricut Air 2 can cut and write, but it doesn't have an adaptive tool system. This includes the rotary blade as well as many other "extras."

The Cricut Maker can cut many different materials.

Best for shirts

The Cricut Air 2 is the best choice if you plan to use the Cricut machine primarily for making shirts. It's a fantastic machine, and it is excellent for cutting vinyl.
