Buyer's Guide

Faux Marble Contact Paper Countertops - A DIY Project To Make Your Kitchen Look Amazing

Marble Contact Paper is not easy to clean. If you have never bought this type of paper you probably think there is no way to clean it without special tools. Well, that was then and this is now! Now there are ways to clean marble without any special tools or chemicals. You just need a few tips on how to go about buying and using the paper. Here are some tips for buying and using contact paper for your floors or kitchen counter.

Marble Contact Paper - What You Need First: Before you begin buying or using marble contact paper you need to make sure you have the right type of paper for the task at hand. First, you want to use a regular, paper towel. Now get out a square of the white paper and roll it out. Remember this will be the outside of the paper and you want to leave about a quarter inch on the other side. Once you have rolled out the paper, press down on one side and stick it down.

Use a hairdryer to blow out as much of the excess water as you can. Once you have dried it, remove it from the roll and gently brush it onto the smooth marble corners. Do this on each side of the door frame that has the crevices. For a straight edge use a small round tip grinder and run it along with the door frame corners. Do this on each side of the crevices too.

Buying Tips: If you are unsure how to use the paper and you don't know if you are using a straight line or an inclined one, don't be afraid to ask the salesman. Most products are labeled with instructions and they are usually pretty easy to follow. Simply use a marker to mark off where the paper should go. Next, take your straight edge and lightly grope the edges of each side of the crevice. You will need to keep one-third of the straight edge above the crevices of each door or the edge that runs along the wall.

Now it's time to install! Start by removing the paper from the rolls. Spread it evenly on the bottom, middle, and sides of all four counters. Once all the paper is installed, lay it down and install the grooves in between. You may need to overlap some of them. Now you are ready to begin setting up your marble contact paper counters.

Begin by setting up the first corner. Place your straight edge across the top of the first corner, but only on the very corners. Then use an exacto knife to carefully remove the excess paper from the edges of each corner, being careful not to cut the corners. This is an important step as the edges of the marble contact paper will be in contact with each other and the exacto knife will catch any stray bits.

Now it's time for the second corner. Again, place your straight edge across this corner but only on the very corners. Using an exacto knife, remove the excess paper from each edge. Continue this process until all four corners are covered.

Finally, it's time to place your granite countertops. The last thing you want to do is glue everything together. If you must glue the granite, try to seal it well. Otherwise, it will attract oil and water which will cause it to seep out and cause ugly water spots. After your faux marble contact paper counters are installed, you are ready to enjoy the beauty of granite counters.
